Today was my first day of Kindergarten. You all may be wondering how I made it through NAIT and CLBI if I never even went to kindergarten. Well you see, my parent's noticed that I was a brilliant child so they locked me in our castle tower so I would not be forced to work in a Circus at an early age. When I was grown up to the age of 18 my parents let me out of the castle tower and when I came out my hair was so long that someone could have used it as a rope to climb up the tower and save me but I have a tender scalp so we figured it wouldn't work. Anyhow. At the age of 18 I was able to go to school and well now I want to work my way from the begining of school (kindergarten) just for the experience.
Now if you believed that story, I'm sorry, Santa is not real.
Anyhow the truth! I was talking to a lady at bible study who asked me if I wanted to volunteer my free time (seeing as I work only part time) to help out in the kindergarten class. So today was my first day helping out and it was rather funny because at break in the staff room (I finally get to go into the staff room) Teachers were asking me who I was subbing for. It was great. Kids are so funny, I like being able to help out in class rooms. Maybe someday I might take a course that will help me to become a little more valuable in a classroom, a little more knowledgeable. Because I could see this as something I would like to do. Like there is one lady who works with a disabled child and she comes everyday to help out. So that could potentially be fun. humm.. The lady from the bible study turned out to be the principal of the school.. funny, didn't know that. But she said I could come back whenever. So I hope I can make this a bit of a regular thing.
That's all for now.. and no I was not a genius child locked in a Castle tower, just in case you were still wondering... that story was for entertainment sake... mostly for myself.

Our first Christmas Party!
so yesterday night (sat) we had our first Christmas Party of the season. I like Christmas. Anyhow.. Our Christmas party was shared with Friends from our bible study group. Who for those of you that don't know, our Bible study group is a group that meets in the camp's main building and it is just who ever lives around here. Because our camp is so huge, we have people who live in cabins along the lake shore and so they come to this bible study. The funny thing is that they are all almost above the age of 60, except for our boss Kari. So there is a 30-40 year difference kind of thing. But it is great! When we arrived at the house of one of the members we were greeted by that member and his wife and their many pets. They have two dogs that we saw but she talked of more, they were little poodles. Then they had Jack, a talking parrot, who must have been really hungry because all he ever wanted was a piece of pie and when he saw the cookies come out, it was now a cookie. -Never satisfied:P. Anyhow so we started with the meal. Course I didn't tell anyone that I was a Celiac. Like how do you put that into normal conversation. "So Jesus is pretty cool eh?" "Yeah, totally - hey did you know I'm a Celiac?" Not too smooth. So as I watched the preparations I came to notice that almost everything that people brought was covered in unknown sauces with hidden gluten then there were the obvious ones like stuffing in the Turkey. So I grabbed what I could and we brought food that was gluten free so I loaded up, but we made Kapuns and Andreas made the broth twice as strong so it was quite salty. (everyone liked them but I felt like my arteries were clogging so I wonder how they felt) But none the less I love Kapuns and they were good, just not too many. And there were some other dishes like "spuds" It was really funny a pile of people had to share about their dishes before we could eat. So we ate and visited. There was this one guy Adolf who was just decked out he had flashing ties, sequence covered his suspenders and his santa had was backwards or inside out or something. He's just a funny crazy guy. But after super we had our gift exchange which was entertaining. We did it where we could steal from others... Andreas and I have a hard time doing that, especially when your so new to the group, we feel awkward. Oh well. It was a fun time though, and next week we get to go to a play with the group, a nice couple helped us by buying us the tickets to the play. I love being in a group learning from amazing and funny people who have a little bit of wisdom and experience on their side. They are very supportive and I almost am alright with not having friends our age, almost. I wouldn't mind a few and I think Andreas would really like some too. :) Anyhow that's all for now! Next I'll let you know how the play goes and our staff party! Bowling! :)

Blessed
So today, I was having a really horrible week.. yes I know that doesn't fully make sense. Lately Andreas has been working hard at work then coming home and working on homework then working on work, and coming home and working on homework. And both of us have not been getting very good sleep, we are thinking that even though it is a blessing to have a mattress, it's sad when the mattress keeps you awake all night (very unproductive). So for the last week here we have been tired and cranky and not really spending any time with each other and today it finally hit me. Today the scanner at work broke three times in the first 30 mins of the day, and by noon time I had built up a whole truck load of poo in my inerself. So being upset I did not eat lunch and went back to work just as angry and upset as before, and just as hungry. So when Andreas stopped in a little after lunch I mentioned to him that I was still hungry and it was effecting my work. about 5 mins later he came back with a smorge of random food. it made my day go a lot better to know that someone was still thinking about me, and even though the scanner later died and it made me very frustrated, I'm still alive. It's been an interesting jaunt so far in this race, a lot of ups and downs but we're still chugging!

Photo of Christmas Tree
Sorry I did take a picture of the tree with intentions of sticking it up here, but I completely forgot. So here it is!.... sorry it's sideways, but if you just detach your head and tilt it to the side, it works well!

Christmas Tree!!
So just the other day Andreas and I went out to pick out a Christmas Tree. We hiked out into the bush (in a designated area for tree chopping) and found a cute little tree that looked a little like charlie browns, and cut it down. I think Andreas was just getting a little cold and chopped down the first tree he saw that wasn't 40 feet tall. No matter it is ours and our very first tree, so special to us. So in order to get the tree we took Carolina (our little car that thinks she's a 4x4) rolled down the windows and strapped the tree onto the roof by wrapping ropes through the windows then drove really slowly. Once we got home Andreas dragged the tree inside, and we proceeded to let it drip dry. Unfortunately in the time period of letting the tree drip dry, Jessica (Me) came down with a sudden flu like symptoms. She took her birth control pills too close in time and ended up paying for it by having to lay on the couch in pain while watching Andreas decorate the tree himself (which was rather cute). So thus is the adventure of our Christmas tree. In case anyone cared.. I am ok now. Andreas went to the local groshrie store to buy gravol and came home with pepto because some 16 year old boy told him it's like the same thing...and no offence to pepto people, but it doesn't work worth a darn.
Anyhow! God Bless! it's almost Christmas! yeah!

Oh the fate of Lola
We have discovered two truths, the fate of our friends we make are short lived and the other truth is the truth about boys. Most of you know about Lola (if you don't scroll down and read about her) but there is this one thing that was terribly wrong about where Lola lived. She resided on the boys side of the camp ground. This weekend there was a camping group that came in to use the cabins...and well... we have a video clip by our favorite comedian, Ken Davis, that will explain this a bit better to you. So please watch the clip and then read on.

So as you can tell she would have been better on the girls side, they would have taken care of her better, unfortunately Lola was bombarded by the boys and no longer lives to tell about it. :(

Alarmed
So we haven't been having very good sleep lately, we have been switching our mattresses around because being at a camp we tend to have a wide quantity. But it just isn't good, we end up waking up with soar backs and miserable sleeps. On Wednesday night after a good bible study meeting we came home to rest praying for a good sleep, and it was until 4:47 in the morning. At that time in the morning we were both violently woken up to our screechy fire alarm. And as soon as I stood up out of bed it went off. Then came back on. So Andreas and I proceeded up stairs, wrapped up in our blankets in case of a quick get away, but we found no hint of a fire. Meanwhile our alarm proceded to go off and on. So because being at a camp we also have other places to sleep in which is very handy so we grabbed our bedding and my cellphone and left our house towards the main building in hopes that we will find our house in one peice in the later morning hours. So after going to sleep again and waking up at a decent hour we headed back to our house that was still in one peice thank goodness and I smelled a weird odor of campfire smoke. So I phoned my mom to see what could be the cause of this smell and rude awaking, and she told me to phone Sask Energy. So we got Sask Energy to come out and check our house for a gas leak and well, he told us that we had two major leaks coming from our furnace and our gas fire place and turned off all our gas to our house and told us to get it fixed. So thankfully enough the director knew of a friend who is a professional gas leak fixer and he came out right away and got the job done. But we still have no logical explaination as to why our fire alarm went off, it could be that Wednesday night Andreas opened the door to the furnace room and then burnt a candle beside our bed which created carbon monoxide that made it's way to the alarm, it could be just falty system. But we think it might be God sending a wake up call so that we could get our gas leaks fixed, next time though I think I might apreciate a phone call instead of a fire alarm.

Jeri
My last story I want to share with you is about Jeri, a dear friend we made while we were here but sadly he no longer exists. The day it snowed and we met Steven the squirrel, (read story below) We also decided to take a walk to see if we could make it to the town, seeing as the camp we are living on is farther out it would have taken us almost an hour but I couldn't make it so we came back. And that is where Jeri comes into the picture. On our way back into campus there it was on the side of the road, snow, clean white sticky snow. I could not help myself I wanted so much to make something out of the snow. So I did, I started rolling and padding, and with the help of Andreas together we made our first friend, Jeri. His name comes from the "Jerico way" road sign that was directly across from where Jeri made his home. Not very original on his parents account but we all can't have the name Jessica. ;) It was our one and only friend that we had made so far, we wanted to make more friends and I tried outside our front door but it was just not the same. Unfortunately the weather started to change a bit and we are sad to say that the last time we went out to see Jeri, he was gone. Sometimes those relationships just don't last.
Steven the squirrel
So going back sometime whe
n my father was still here. My parents came to help us move and spend some time visiting. So Dad went outside on to our deck to look around and he found a friend, steven the squirrel. So excitedly he came inside and grabed a potato that I cooked up for lunch, put it in a bowl and waited. Nothing happened.

The next day my parents went out and bought some bird feed, and so dad grabed the bowl and went out there and poured some bird seed in it and waited. Nothing happened. Then the time came for my parents to leave and they did not get to see steven.
On tuesday there was a beautiful snow frosting the ground and the trees, and when I woke up I grabed my camera to go out and take pictures of the trees in all thier beauty. And when I walked to the door of the deck there he was, Steven. And I just stood there and said, "Squirrel!" Then Andreas came up looked at the squirrel, "take a picture," he sa
id and then I realised that I had my camera in my hand. So from behind the glass door I started to take pictures as Steven just chugged the food back. Then we slowly opened the door and took some more pictures still standing inside. Then Andreas took the camera and started to proceed out towards Steven taking pictures and he got some great shots. And Steven unlike most human beings didn't mind having his picture taken while he was eating. He even stopped to pose. Steven has come back many times to visit us so we are trying to keep him well fed.

So it's been a while since I have been able to get on here to blog something... but I wanted to share somethings that happened this week. When we first got up here, we made the joke that we are going to be stuck up here, because it's far north about 1/2 and hour away from a big central where they have things like superstore. So if for some reason that our car breaks down or just can't get out of here, we would be stuck never able to leave. Then this story happened....
So Andreas and I were invited to go to a community meal in the little town we are living in and we thought great.. we haven't been out and we haven't met anyone yet, why not. So that night we came home from work, which basically I just walk across the grass and I'm home, and we got all ready to go out. We jumped into the car and Andreas let me drive so I was quite excited. Now our "drive way" is curved around this bush of trees (because we live in the bush) so when I turned the corner we both saw it, our road had foot deep ruts in it from the previous construction that was going on the day before. I drove up as close as I could to the ruts just to see if my car could make it and decided against it. Which was unfo
rtunate because this road was the only road we could use to get out. So I started to back up but the roads were so muddy that I basically drove my car into the ditch getting her stuck in the mud about 1/2 a foot from a tree. So now, we were stuck here, like actually. Our fear of never getting out and being stuck in the bush actually fulfilled itself, in what I found to be a very humorous way. So Andreas ran to get help from mike, and I ran to get the camera. We eventually got our car out of the mud but in the end we were still stuck and spent the night at home.

We eventually got our car out of the mud but in the end we were still stuck and spent the night at home. The next day we were almost going crazy, the road was not fixed yet and we still were not able to get out. We both decided that if we don't get our car out soon then it's going to snow and we are not going to ever get out of here. See on the other side of the grass where I work in the office of the camp, is a parking lot. It's pretty well kept up, as long as the snow stays down, and the roads are fairly clear after that. But our car is on the other side of the grass, stuck. So what did Andreas decided to do then, drive over the grass. It was still wet that day, it had been raining Sunday when we got stuck and then it still rained a bit on Monday as well when Andreas got this idea to drive across the grass. So in order to get across the grass, missing the major buildings and obsticals we had to drive our car through two sets of trees located at either end of the grass patch. And the distance between the set of trees, the distance we had to drive our car through was 7 Andreas feet, and the car was 6. So need less to say, we got our car onto the other side of the grass and the next day, it snowed. Yea God is good and provides solid ground and good timing!

The Land of Charlottes
So we have just left the land of Kuh and have moved to the land of Charlotte the spider. There is one thing about living at a camp out in the bush, bugs. They are everywhere even if it is cold, and they apear and make themselves at home wherever they want. Just the other day I ran into Charlotte LXX in the bathtub. I was able to convince Charlotte to try a turn down the waterslide. I don't think she liked it very much because she never came back for a second turn. Then I noticed that Charlotte III was still sitting on the stairs, I keep telling her to move or I will step on her. I don't know I just seem to keep atracting them.
Here we are!
so this is the introduction to our blog I have decided that because there are so many interesting things that go on up North here and because we know many friends that are interested in how we are doing that I would just blog it! If people want to know how our life is going up at a bible camp located in the far north of Canada. Enjoy!
